The Delights of Burgundy

There are many delightful places to visit in France such as Paris and Marseille for example but one of the most beautiful places in the country is Burgundy.  This region is famous for its fabulous wines and there are many amazing dishes that originated here such as boeuf bourgignon and coq au vin.  So while on a holiday to Burgundy, you would definitely be eating well and enjoying a drink or two.  However, there is a lot more to Burgundy than just food and drink.

Why Holiday in Burgundy

France is one of the most visited countries in the whole world and it is not difficult to see why.  With so many different regions to visit, you can go from city life to rural relaxation in no time at all.  Burgundy has plenty to offer in terms of relaxation as well as adventure.  This part of France is steeped in history and tradition so it is well worth a visit.  When it comes to Burgundy property, there are some fabulous places to stay such as farmhouses or villas.  

If you like sightseeing then you won’t be disappointed with Burgundy as there are many wonderful abbeys, churches and chateaux to see.  You can see firsthand evidence of the wars that were fought in the region and learn all about the pacts that helped to settle them.  There are also many archaeological sites to visit as well.  One thing you will probably be made aware of when holidaying in Burgundy is that the area is famous for a number of poets and artists.  There are so many beautiful and charming little shops where you can buy a number of textiles, ceramics and pottery from locals.

When it comes to staying in Burgundy, you will not find it hard to locate a beautiful Burgundy property to stay in.  Whether you are there with a group or as a couple, you will find plenty of choice when it comes to Burgundy property.  Besides the traditional farmhouses and villas, you could even stay in a restored watermill, canal boat or a grand castle.

Activities

There is plenty to keep you occupied during your holiday to Burgundy.  The beautiful countryside provides the perfect place to take long relaxing walks or you could visit one of the fabulous vineyards here and experience some wine tasting.  Some people are more adventurous and for them there is the Morvan Forest where horse riding and hiking are very popular.  If you want something that will get your adrenaline flowing then you could try your hand at ballooning, rafting or micro-lighting which would ensure you had a fantastic holiday to remember forever.

Alternatives to the Foreign Package Holiday

Getting away for a week or two every year gives us a chance to recharge our batteries and unwind.  It is something that we look forward to after the stresses of everyday life.  However, a foreign holiday could be something that you just can’t afford these days due to the recession.  So what are the alternatives if you really want to get away?  Below are a few suggestions:

  1. London is a fantastic place to visit as there is just so much to see and do there.  This bustling city is full of excitement and you can visit many places for free.  The National History Museum and Science Museum are wonderful places to visit and you could always take a trip to Buckingham Palace.  Even a wander around Harrods is something that you could do.  There are also many other places that you can visit that you have to pay for but some are well worth the expense such as the London Eye and Madame Toussauds.
  2. The UK is a beautiful country with many amazing places to see and do.  A tour of the countryside is a wonderful way to see the fabulous sights and if you love the outdoors, then this is a perfect holiday option.  You can stay in campsites or caravan parks and many of them are situated near to forests or national parks.  
  3. If you want to see some historical sites and take in a bit of culture then you could consider a holiday in Wales or Scotland.  There are many beautiful places to visit in both of these countries.  You can take your own trip or book an arranged tour if you wish.  
  4. Holiday parks are a wonderful place to get away with the family.  Taking your children to a holiday park will ensure that they have a holiday to remember.  There is so much to do there and everyday will be different.  With so many activities on offer, they will never have a chance to be bored.  It is no surprise then that so many families are choosing to head to holiday parks for their annual vacation.
  5. A trip across the Irish Sea will get you to the Emerald Isle and this is a fantastic place to visit.  The people are so welcoming and you will have a fantastic time in this beautiful country.  You can choose to visit the capital Dublin for some amazing fun or you could head off on a tour around the rest of the country where there are some really amazing sights.
